  • Infection of the brain for example, meningitis or encephalitis

Types of Headaches

  1. Migraine Headaches
These types of headaches always appear as severe headaches that usually occur with other symptoms such as visual disturbance, nausea, and vomiting. The pain may be described as throbbing, pounding or pulsating and usually tends to begin on one side of the head, although may spread to both sides. A group of warning symptoms that start before a headache begins, called an “AURA”, and may be present.
  2. Cluster Headaches
these are sharp, sudden, and extremely painful and tend to occur several times per day or for a month and then go away for a similar time period. Most of the time cluster headaches with any brain or neck problems.
  3. Sinus Headaches
Sinus headaches are associated with pain in the front of the head and face. They are due to inflammation in the sinus passages situated behind the cheeks, nose and eyes. These types of headaches are also called Sun Headaches, as the pain tends to be worse when bending forward and upon waking in the morning with the sun rise and then decreases with sunset.
  4. Headaches may also be associated with cold, flu, or premenstrual syndrome. If a person is over 50 years old and experiencing headaches for the first time, a condition called “Temporal Arteritis” may be present.  Symptoms of this condition include impaired vision and pain, aggravated by chewing.
